Persistent Absence (PA) : The Current Threshold
The Persistent Absence threshold for students changed from 15%to 10% from the start of Academic Year 2015 to 2016. From September 2015, Ofsted will use this new threshold in its inspection regime.
The new threshold means that any student will be classed as persistently absent when they have missed 38 or more sessions at any point during the academic year, which equates to a little as 5 to 7 days each term.
We realise that some absences through illness are unavoidable and will continue to be authorised when medical evidence is provided. Unauthorised Absence is the main concern
Please be aware that these changes to PA thresholds means that Attendance BELOW 90% is now Persistent Absence.
