Dance
At Abbeyfield School, every student explores dance in an inclusive environment. Our bespoke facilities, including a sprung floor, allows students to learn and perform a range of movements safely. The dance curriculum has been designed for pupils to receive diverse and modern experience.
Key Stage 3
Over the three-year curriculum, students will learn and perform a wide range of movement sequences from a range of different genres and styles of Dance. These include, Bollywood, Street Dance, Jazz and Parkour. Students will study and explore professional repertoire and begin to analyse how constituent features are used to communicate themes and a narrative.
Students will also learn how to respond to a range of different stimuli’s and topics to create a develop movement material.
Key Stage 4
Students will study AQA GCSE Dance. The course provides opportunity for students to study a wide range of Dance styles and genres, while developing their Physical, Technical and Expressive skills through a wide range of classes and performance opportunities.
Enrichment
The Dance department believe providing opportunities in and out of the classroom context enhances students’ understanding and engagement.
Dance & the Performing Arts play a huge part to the contribution of the schools extra-curricular programme. Our annual school productions have been become renowned for its professionalism in which students fully experience working to a professional standard. Students also have the opportunity to join the Junior and senior Dance club. We have our Theatre Tech Crew allowing students to develop a deeper understanding of working in the theatre practically. In addition, there are a number of trips and residentials which are planned throughout the year which include visits to see Blood Brothers, a tour of the National Theatre and our annual London Residential Trip.
